Level 1 Defensive Handgun, $145.



This class is for the shooter who has a firm understanding of safety and the fundamentals of marksmanship. While we will review the fundamentals, this is not a basic class. Topics covered will include:


    •    Firearms safety in a dynamic enviroment

    •    A review of marksmanship fundamentals

    •    The defensive drawstring

    •    Defensive shooting fundamentals 

    •    Multiple threats

    •    Human anatomy and shot placement

    •    Basics of movement (getting off the x)

    •    Assessing the scene

    •    Proper use of cover and concealment

    •    Malfunction clearing and types of reloads

    •    Proper defensive mindset 

    •    Situational awareness and avoiding a violent encounter

    •    Physiological and psychological aspects of a violent encounter 

    •    Criminal behavior and mindset

    •    The aftermath of a violent encounter

    •    Initial contact with police after a violent encounter, what to do, what to expect

    •    Tactical considerations

Gear requirements:

    •    Centerfire pistol or revolver. Preferablytheone you carry, however, One you are prepared to shoot for 500 rounds. If bringing a revolver, please let us know ahead of time

    •    A minimum of 500 rounds of quality ammunition for your weapon. 

    •    Three dummy rounds of the same caliber 

    •    A minimum of 3 magazines or 4 speedloaders

    •    A quality strong side holster, preferably Kydex or leather, that will stay attached to belt and you can reholster one handed. If the mouth of the holster will not stay open when the gun is removed it is unacceptable. If the trigger is not covered in the holster it is unacceptable. If the holster comes off the belt when you draw the gun it is unacceptable

    •    Belt pouches or holders for magazines or speed loaders

    •    Ear protection ( preferrably electronic)

    •    Eye protection

    •    Hat with brim

    •    Shirt with a high neckline

    •    Closed toe shoes

    •    Water, drinks, and food to sustain you through day (we will have a working lunch on range, plan accordingly)

    •    Sunscreen and bug spray

    •    Rain gear

    •    A positive attitude and a good night's sleep

    •    A comfortable lawn chair 

    •    A notepad and pen


If you are missing any of the above, please let me know in advance, as it is very likely I have something you may borrow.


This class will start at 8 am and last approximately 10 hours, although it sometimes goes a little long. Be prepared for a long day. We will be outside for a large portion of day and the class will be conducted rain or shine, so be prepared. You will come away from this class with an understanding of what happens in a violent encounter and what is required to prevail. This class can be used to meet the training requirements for Florida CCW.
